MDP Team

The Secure Cloud Manufacturing Multidisciplinary team is a collaboration between the University of Michigan and Rockwell Automation. Students join our MDP for two semesters to earn hands-on experience in industrial automation, data analytics, and manufacturing technologies. The team is organized in four sub-teams: mechanical, control, simulation, and cloud. Sub-teams are composed by undergraduate and graduate students from different majors working in close collaboration with graduate students in the research group.

The long-term goal of this project is to demonstrate the application of cloud computing for processing large volumes of manufacturing data. Due to the confidential nature of manufacturing data, security is an important aspect of our studies. This project utilizes a small manufacturing system that consists of three industrial robots, four machine tools, and two conveyors, with an integrated industrial control system connected by Ethernet/IP. The research goals around the testbed include: control development and validation, anomaly detection, agent-based control, dynamic rerouting, reconfigurable control, cloud-based manufacturing, security of cyber-physical systems, etc.
